Quick Verdict

Pros:

  • Excellent build quality for a folding seat
  • Comfortable, breathable hammock-style seat
  • Smart design with quick-release frame adjustment
  • Gear shifter mount now included

Cons:

  • Noticeable flex under high wheel torque
  • Pedal mount can shift under load
  • Limited wheel and pedal position adjustment

What Is the Playseat Challenge X?

The Playseat Challenge X is a revamped version of the original Playseat Challenge, known for its foldable X-frame and portability. This new model is a collaboration with Logitech, borrowing design cues from the Playseat Trophy Logitech G Edition but tailored for casual racers who lack space for full-size rigs.

Design Highlights:

  • Steely grey frame with electric blue accents
  • Foldable design, ideal for living room use
  • Enhanced pedal mounting options
  • Quick-release locking system with six recline settings
  • Compatible with most racing wheels and pedals (Logitech G923 recommended)

Assembly & Setup

Setup takes less than 30 minutes and is solo-friendly. The printed instructions are clear, and Playseat also provides an official assembly video on YouTube. Parts slot easily into place, and no special tools are required.

Design & Build Quality

At first glance, the Challenge X looks similar to its predecessor. However, the refinements are evident:

  • Thicker steel frame adds stability
  • Improved aesthetics with Logitech G branding
  • Included gear shifter mount—a £25 value previously sold separately
  • ActiFit fabric seat provides comfort and breathability over long sessions

Unlike bulkier sim rigs, this seat collapses neatly and can be tucked away in closets or behind furniture. The folding design makes it one of the most portable racing seats on the market.

Performance in Racing Titles

Tested with Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel and EA F1 23 on PC and console, the Challenge X performs well for a mid-range product.

  • Seat comfort: Excellent support during long sessions
  • Wheel stability: Noticeable flex when using high-torque wheels like the G Pro, but manageable
  • Pedal mount: Acceptable for Logitech pedals but may shift with heavier sets like MOZA or Fanatec unless modified

The tilt-adjustable wheel deck provides basic customization but lacks depth/rake positioning. Pedal arm clamps may loosen during intense braking but are easy to re-tighten.

Storage & Portability

When folded, the Challenge X becomes significantly more compact than full cockpit rigs like the Playseat Trophy. That said, larger wheels like the Logitech G Pro or long pedal sets may obstruct complete folding. Even so, it remains far more storage-friendly than rigid frames.

Should You Buy the Playseat Challenge X?

If you’re a console or PC sim racer with limited space, the Playseat Challenge X offers a fantastic balance of:

  • Build quality
  • Comfort
  • Portability

It’s not ideal for those using high-end direct drive wheels or non-Logitech pedals without modification. However, for the Logitech G923 or similar models, it’s a near-perfect match.

Final Thoughts

The Playseat Challenge X Logitech G Edition is a smart, well-priced choice for casual and space-conscious sim racers. While it does have some compromises, especially for high-end setups, its thoughtful design makes it one of the best portable racing seats in 2025.
