One of the most anticipated features of the latest Pokémon GO event—Golden PokéStops appearing without the use of a Golden Lure Module—quickly turned into a source of frustration for many players. Reports flooded in that these PokéStops, which were supposed to reward Gimmighoul Coins, were turning blue or disappearing just as players approached them. As a result, countless trainers missed the chance to spin them or collect the valuable coins.
Niantic Responds, But Players Still Feel Let Down
Soon after the complaints started, Pokémon GO’s developers posted a bug notice titled “Golden PokéStops turn blue before spinning.” According to the official response, the issue is visual only and doesn’t affect a player’s ability to collect Gimmighoul Coins. However, the bug remains under investigation.

For many, the explanation wasn’t enough. The PokéStops are a key part of this year’s celebration, offering players a chance to gather coins and encounter a shiny Gimmighoul without needing to link their game to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
More Features Still Active—But the Mood Has Shifted
Despite the bug, the 9th Anniversary Party continues with other active bonuses:
- Special Field Research leading to Gimmighoul encounters
- Limited-time Timed Research
- A costumed version of Gimmighoul (though this form cannot evolve)
The rest of July is also packed with content: Community Day events for Quaxly and Eevee, and the debut of Hisuian Zorua during the Ultra Unlock: Hisui Celebration on July 8.
Still, for those who looked forward to the Golden PokéStops most, the issue feels like a missed opportunity.
Players Are Hoping for a Fix—And Fast
It’s not just about missing a few PokéStops—it’s about expectations. Fans planned their time, traveled, and rearranged their days to be part of the 9th-anniversary fun. The bug, even if “only visual,” disrupted that joy.
Now, players are hoping that Niantic not only fixes the issue quickly, but also finds a way to make up for the disappointment. After all, a milestone like a 9th anniversary deserves to be remembered—for the right reasons.
